In the weeks after the announcement, every HR colleague gets roughly the same questions – the good news is that the list is predictable. Here are the ten most common employee questions, with answers you can safely pass on.
1. What exactly do I get? A pre-agreed, fixed-sum payout for defined events – bone fracture, hospital stay, surgery, critical illness, accidental disability, death – which you can spend freely. The insurance does not organise care; it provides money.
2. What does it cost me? The company pays the premium; there is nothing for the employee to pay.
3. From when am I covered? Typically from being added to the insured list; some covers may carry a waiting period – the exact date is in the internal guide.
4. Do I need a medical examination? In a group scheme typically not, or only a simplified declaration – one of the big advantages of this format.
5. What happens if I leave? The cover is tied to the employment and typically ends on leaving; many products offer an individual continuation option – you will be informed about it when you leave. The background rules are in the article on joiners and leavers.
6. What about my family? With the death benefit, the payout goes to the named beneficiary – the naming rules are described in who is who in the contract; in some packages, family members can typically be included as well.
7. Does it matter that I do sport, or that my hobby is risky? Contracts may treat certain risks – for example regular competitive sport – separately; in a concrete situation, the conditions need to be checked.
8. Who sees my health data? Only the insurer: the declarations and documents go directly to it, and the employer never sees health data.
9. Will my manager find out if I file a claim? Not its content: the case runs between the insurer and the insured person – the employer knows as much as the colleague chooses to share.
10. How do I file a claim, and how long does it take? Claims are filed on the insurer's claims line or online portal – that is the fastest route; the company's internal process only supports it by providing the contact details and the list of required documents. With complete documentation, processing is typically measured in weeks; the exact rules are set by the insurer's current policy conditions. The steps are mapped out in filing a claim with the insurer. If a case gets stuck or a claim is disputed, I help the client, as a broker, where I can.
